Nerve Tumours UK provides support and information, as well as campaigns and raises awareness on behalf of over 26,500 people in the UK who have NF, the group name for Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1), NF2-related-Schwannomatosis (NF2) and Schwannomatosis (SWN).

Story

In recent light of a situation, I'm supporting Nerve Tumours UK because their mission means a great deal to me. They provide crucial support to people living with Neurofibromatosis, the condition that causes nerve tumours.

I was recently diagnosed with a cyst on my brain. I am yet to know the severity of this. This has been linked to a condition I was born with and diagnosed with at aged 9. Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disorder of the nervous system. Tumours form on your nerve tissues. Mainly, neurofibromatosis disorders affect the growth and development of nerve cell tissue, and I have type 1. I am so nervous to open up about this, and it has taken so much for me to tell my story. So many people won’t even know I suffer from this, as it’s something I was embarrassed to admit, the labels and the constant questioning of “why do you have that?” or “why do you look like that?” throughout my childhood made me feel ashamed of who I am. But I am no longer embarrassed about who I am. This is what makes me, me. There is not enough awareness of this horrible disability and something that I feel so strongly about. Please let’s raise awareness of a cause that is so unknown, but yet so horrible and affects your day-to-day life.
