THANK YOU so much to everyone who ran or sponsored us in the Wimbledon Audi 10k today (13.03.11)!  The run went really well, everyone coming in with good times, and I think even enjoying it!!  Sponsorship money is still coming in (the justgiving site will remain active for a few more weeks), but the current total is looking like c£13.5k which far exceeds what we had hoped to raise towards the Sensory Garden at Greenmead.  They are so thrilled and have already said what a difference it will make.

 

Greenmead is a Special School in Putney for children with physical and complex needs, and is attended by Andrew & Georgina's daughter Ella who has Cerebral Palsy.  Despite the tremendous challenges they face, the children are encouraged to be active and independent throughout their day, and supported by a fantastic team of teachers, therapists and classroom assistants.  Each child is treated as and is a valued member of the school.  Every child's voice is heard and the school works hard at finding ways to enable children to communicate effectively. They were the first school in the UK to develop the communication system PODD which has been extremely benefical for a number of the children, including Ella.

 

Greenmead is an incredibly inspriring and fun place to be, and we have been so impressed by the dedication and care shown by the staff since Ella started there at the end of 2010.  In two short months we have seen her become more confident, happy and less frustrated, and have greatly enjoyed getting to know the other equally happy and charming children in her class.  We would love to be able to thank the school for the difference they make to all 40 of their pupils' lives by raising as much money as possible towards the Sensory Garden appeal so that Ella and her friends can enjoy the many benefits of the wheelchair roundabout, trampoline and special walkways they have planned, amongst other things!
