On 15th March 2023, we sadly lost Brenda Prince - a much loved mother to Karen, mother-in-law to Vince, Nan to Eleanor and Georgina, and Great-Nana to Samuel. 

Nan had a stroke, and was in a coma for about 2 days. Despite strikes undoubtedly adding to the pressure on all staff, everyone at Pinderfields Hospital was exemplary in their care, in both A&E and at the Neurology and Stroke Ward, for whom we are looking to raise money in her memory. 

Nan was a fiercely independent matriarch in our family, taking care of everyone and everything for the vast majority of her time with us. She was the only grandparent I and my sister really knew, and she was (and will continue to be) a strong presence throughout our lives. 

Nan’s life will never be defined by her death, as that is just one moment in a long, successful, and full life. Her sense of humour has always been unmatched; she faced adversity head on with practicality and determination; and she consistently provided her family with a safe and loving environment to grow up in. 

The Neurology and Stroke Ward at Pinderfields couldn’t have done more for us during what was one of the hardest times we have faced as a family. They provided us with an open invitation to stay with Nan throughout, all together in a private room, and enabled us to be comfortable enough to laugh and joke with Nan in just the same way we always have. Nan left us surrounded by the people she loved the most, and we cannot thank the staff enough for their compassion.
