York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity raises funds to help make a positive difference in your local hospital - making patients, relatives and visitors feel better and providing a level of care that is beyond that which NHS funding alone could deliver.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have stood and cheered my husband at this event for the last 5 years, my daughter Olivia taking part last year too. I think the wonderful atmosphere went to my head as I started to think that maybe I should take part instead of watching. I entered the ballot and to my surprise (and shock horror!!!) I gained a place. I had only run in the Race for Life 5k many years before so some serious training was needed and I started out wondering what on earth I had done!!

After moving to the area 20 years ago, I have always worked either in Selby War Memorial Hospital or in the community or both as I do now and I thought it would be a good idea to raise money for a good local cause.

I feel that the new "Shared Care Dialysis Unit" at Selby War Memorial Hospital will be a wonderful facility for the area. Patients that are able to care for their own dialysis are able to use these facilities, instead of having to travel to York hospital and all that that entails.

The Dialysis machines have been funded, but I would like to raise money for additional items ie: video link to the doctors in York so that they can remotely monitor patients, a TV, tea/coffee making facilities, all to make the patient more comfortable whilst undergoing dialysis within the new unit.

Please donate whatever you can afford as every little bit will help.

Thank you.
