Story
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Those of you who know me well will know how much I have enjoyed running with Perth Road Runners for almost 2 years. Totally changed my life..what a great bunch of guys and girls. Up until now I have only run 5 half marathons in last 12 months....never a full one!!! but have really admired all my fellow PRR members who have chosen to run a full marathon, especially with the added work of raising money for a charity. The strength needed to run that distance I can only imagine is massive, but not as big as the strength needed to fight cancer of the blood.
I have chosen to run for Leukaemia Care due to a family member dying from this in his early 20's. I'm running this for you Colin Grant....I just hope I'm a better runner than I was a pool player against you!! You are going to be with me all the way.
In order to secure my place with the charity I need to raise at least £1750 for them and some of the money is payable to them upfront before I even cross the start line.
The money you donate will go to a national organisation that provides 24hr call centre support to blood cancer patients and families, support groups all over UK, increase numbers of cancer care nurses based in hospitals and provide regional care teams who help patients directly at point of diagnosis.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.... they’ll never send you unwanted emails or pass your details to anyone. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. Efficient and easy.
Please dig deep folks. No matter how small you can donate, every little helps. Keep you posted with my training progress and how many toe nails I lose!! yuck!
Thanks G. x
Blog -23/01/2011 - Training going well. Up to 30 miles per week and longest run is 13 miles. Only 12 weeks to go. Im terrified! Keep having dreams of forgetting my trainers and having to run it in bare feet! 3 weeks off alcohol! Whats come over me??
Blog - 06/02/2011 - ran 33 miles last week over 6 days - probably a bit too much as feeling the tiredness this week so much. Decided to have more rest days and 2 long runs this week. So did 11 on Tuesday and 14 very hilly miles this weekend in very good time so the rest has paid off. Ankles are bit sore and lovely blisters size of 2pences starting to hurt...but hey all for a good cause. Thanks also to my friends and family who have helped me with my training either by watching my kids or coming with me for company. love to you all xxx
13/02/2011 - nearly there with my target. Im so chuffed. Ran 28miles this week. Had a lovely run at back of Perth for 14 miles with two of my lovely road runner friends Allison and Andrea. Pouring with rain but to be honest didnt really notice. Thankfully tried out energy gels on run and gave me terrible stomach pain so learn from that!
20/02/2011 - total just over 30 miles this week. Longest was 16 in one run which took 2.5 hours. Loved it. Really feeling Im improving. Starving all the time! Held a wee 'secret kitchen' night with a couple of friends this week -raised £20 in commission sales. Kids have been asking if Im going to win the race....mmmm? let me think?
26/02/2011 - milleage stepping up a gear- longest 18miles!!! So mind blowing I could do that! Lovely run from Dunkeld back to Perth - last 2 miles hurt like hell and stopping hurt even more and walked for 2 days like I had gravel in my pants. Got jelly legs big time. Thanks to my friend Heather for helping me do it. so proud of what Ive done so far. Been sent details of the after race party in London - complete with ice baths!!! Id rather stick the ice in my drink thanks. Ive not even finished race and Im thinking about alcohol!! Typical wino!
06/03/2011 - longest all in one run was 20 miles back from Dunkeld again. Dont think I can do that route again because I now know whats coming round the corner - HILLS!!! Once I got back past Almondbank it was fine and flat. A lot fitter this week and didnt go to bed after run like I normally do!. But blisters had me limping at work....ouch! Need new feet. 6 weeks to go...not that Im counting!.
13/03/2011 - total 18 miles - not good with 5 weeks left! Snow, blisters and a heavy cold damaged all plans!! Only managed 12 miles as longest run...which was on a treadmill. Boring. Need a good week.
20/03/2011 - good week with training and birthday today and treated myself to 22miles in one run! ouch! thats all im saying on that one! Feet still very sore. but very pleased all the same.
27/03/2011 - only short runs weekend off big one. trying to get feet back to not throbbing. 3 weeks to go. cant wait.
02/04/2011 - Total of 24 miles run this week. really slowing it down. feet are fine. Podiatrist has helped. Wish I had saw him 8 weeks ago.
10/04/2011 - Cant wait. so happy with what has been raised by my friends and family. Dreaming of running in bare feet again and also losing my way at the race. Thousands of people along the way - how the heck does your mind dream that you lose your way?? Nervous, scared, excited, emotional, doubting my training, confident, not confident...full range of emotions! What a roller coaster this has been since January. Have learnt a lot about myself. Just thanks to all my friends and family that have showed so much support. Lets get this done. Strategy - Not fast just steady! xx
28/04/2011 - Well despite the training (roughly 380 miles run since January) my body has only just got over it. It was amazing. Training didnt let me down, feet let me down as got blisters at mile 18 and the heat down in London was unreal. Really enjoyed it though. My lasting memory is a little boy at mile 25 when I was nursing my feet at side of road and looking at the blood all over my trainers....he asked me if I was okay and then he said 'not far just go!! go!!' Its the people in the crowd that make it and I gave him a high five and ran the last mile without limping. 4hrs 47. Could have done it faster but hey I have dodgy feet. Im very proud and the charity were very warm and greatful at all the money raised when I saw them in London. A day I will never forget. Thanks to everyone who donated. My kids want me to do it next year and they still wearing their t-shirts which says 'my mum run london!' ....p.s I only lost two toe nails. Not bad eh!. xxx
