JDRF - London Walk/Run to Cure Diabetes · 10 September 2011 ·
So why is a lifetime non runner like me even attempting to run 5k?
That cheeky little girl on the left is the reason.
Instead of opening presents and blowing out candles, Azara spent her 2nd birthday in A&E having emergency lines inserted and being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.
This lifelong and life threatening condition affects all aspects of her and our life. However in the last 3 years we have met amazing people quietly looking for a cure, improving treatment and improving daily management.
JDRF is now "Azara's charity" and it helps those doctors, nurses and medical research people do their thing.
However, funds are needed to carry on the good work and this is where you and me come in.
Please donate whatever you can - big or small, it all helps and is greatly appreciated.
Karen, Loren and Grace will be running alongside me to make sure I cross the finish line.
And as for the name? -
its a nod to all the research taking place and to the "Mitochondria" that exists in cells and is being investigated to help restart insulin production.
Thanks
Gillian and Azara xxx
Post Run/Walk Update:
Many thanks to everyone who has given a donation.
We all managed to complete the course in good time - even Azara walked the 5k with Dad.
Its now the day after and my legs ache - didnt realise there were so many muscles!
