Story

As midwives, bereavement is a big part of our job; it’s the toughest part of our job. In the Princess Royal Maternity in Glasgow we have two bereavement rooms - one of which is going to be redesigned by SiMBA and is costing a fair bit of money - all raised by parents who have suffered losses or by their relatives

SiMBA are planning to refurbish our room 12 (one of the baby loss rooms) in labour ward.  We plan to play a part in this by raising some of the money required. So we will be doing a sponsored cycle from Glasgow to Inverness.

Our ride starts in Glasgow on the 5th September from the doors of the PRM and will finish in Inverness on the 7th September in front of Inverness Castle. The total distance is 210 miles. Here are the daily routes:

  3. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/27258360

The team members are Gillian Mcloughlin, Fiona McComb and Jennifer Johansson. If anyone wants to join in for all, part or even a little of it you will be very welcome.

SiMBA, Simpson's Memory Box Appeal, was founded in 2005 by Executive Director Sara Fitzsimmons who worked at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary as a midwife, and later became a registered charity in 2008. Sara felt that families whose baby had died were not given enough; a brown paper envelope with polaroid photos, hand and footprints and a birth acknowledgement certificate. Sara, along with friends, fundraised to buy Memory Boxes for Simpsons but other hospitals got in contact.12 years later, SiMBA now supply hospitals across the UK.
