In response to the global COVID-19 crisis Gleniffer High School would like to provide access to hand-washing facilities at our partner schools in Malawi; Chilandepa and Dzenza Primary Schools. 

This is at a cost of £8 per hand-washing facility. £540 would help us equip both Primary Schools with safe hand-washing facilities for all the learners and staff, and would also give us the capacity to allow the local women's groups associated with the primary schools the opportunity to receive a wage during this difficult time, educating the young people on how to properly wash their hands. 

The key intended outcome is better hygiene during school time, leading to an overall improvement in health and therefore attendance rates in schools. Less than 5% of Malawi schools provide hand-washing facilities with soap and poor sanitation and hygiene in schools remains one of the key reasons for low attendance in school. Importantly, providing facilities and educating around WASH will limit the spread of COVID-19 amongst children and the wider community.
