Story

Hello, friends,

Thank you in advance for supporting this effort to raise USD 60,000 to purchase a new ambulance for the Teaching Hospital in Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal state in South Sudan.

After years of war, many parts of South Sudan still lack the health infrastructure necessary to address healthcare needs, and to prevent health complications and death, including for women in labor.

The recent upsurge in COVID-19, in South Sudan has caused more pressure on healthcare facilities and on the population. Wau Teaching Hospital is currently crowded, health workers are overwhelmed, and equipment and medicines are scarce. Healthcare centers in surrounding areas lack equipment and skilled healthcare workers.

Importantly, there is no proper transportation or an ambulance for people who need emergency healthcare.  This includes women in labor who need urgent obstetric care who often have to call the police, and to use police trucks to reach the hospital.

The proud people of Bahr el Ghazal have spearheaded many initiatives to promote health and to address the other challenges they face, including through the work of the Global Partnership for Peace in South Sudan. The current Governor of the State, Sarah Cleto Rial, herself a women's rights and social justice activist, is committed to leaving a legacy that includes advancing gender equality and social justice; and also supporting maternal health.

So, during International Women's Month and also in celebration of Mother's Day (21 March), honor a loved one and/or express your solidarity with the people of Western Bahr el Ghazal, and make a generous donation to support this effort.

With thanks to Dr. Nada Ali, of University of Massachusetts, Boston who passionately offered to spearhead this fundraising event.

-Once we reach our target of USD 60,000 we will transfer the money to Western Bahr el Ghazal through our fiscal agent, Sudan Sunrise. The ambulance will arrive in South Sudan in approximately 21 days. An invoice is available upon request.

We are also grateful to Sudan Sunrise, for supporting GaPPSS.

And to all of you, THANK YOU.
