Story

:

Gordon Aged 82, pounds the pavements to help Disabled Children.

Eight-two year old running enthusiast Gordon Woodlands has a unique
Great Birmingham Run training regime - all to support disabled and
terminally ill children.

Gordon, from Walsall , is former milkman and postrman so is familiar
with the streets of the town where he trains most days. His workout
includes running up 17 flights of steps and completing multiple 1k
laps of Palfrey park three times a week.

Gordon - who is the oldest person taking part in the Great Birmingham
Run and will be 83 two days after the event on Sunday 19 October- only
took up running in 2011 after the death of his wife (Norah). He said
"She died on March 18th two days before our 57th Anniversary and
on October I finally picked myself up and decided to get in shape by
joining the local Bentley Slimming World Group".

So he pounds the pavements on a route from Walsall through Darlaston,
Moxley, Bilston, Wolverhampton, Willenhall and Darlaston Green 14miles
3 days a week.

Now with 2 rails full of running medals, Gordon is completing in the
Great Birmingham Run in aid of Cannock - based charity Newlife
Foundation for Disabled Children. Newlife provides specialist disability
equipment for children all round the UK - and in the West Midlands alone
this amounts to 653 Equipment Grants totalling £965.996.
