We support Fiji's National Development Goals, increasing opportunity for children and youths living in rural Fijian communities.

Story

Hello everyone!  In July I will be venturing out to Fiji for the month, to volunteer with the charity Think Pacific. During this time, I wont be chilling on one of the many beautiful beaches there but will be living with a Fijian family in their traditional home. I will be teaching children from disadvantaged backgrounds that currently live in extreme poverty.

If you know me well enough, you will know how much of a shock living in a home with no electricity, hot water or a decent chocolate supply is going to be. So, why am I putting myself through this?

Well, for those of you who do know me well, you will know how passionate I am about ensuring every child has the basic amenities to live a happy life. This passion has led me to become a Children’s Social Worker, where I currently work on a Child Protection team. For the last year and a half I have been supporting local children to live a life free from harm and now, I would like to venture further afield and support children who are living in severe poverty.

Why Fiji? Despite being a beautiful country with a very friendly and loving ethos, 1/3 of the children are living below the poverty line, which means they are living on one dollar a day. Over 75% of these children don't have access to fresh water or proper sanitation. To me, this just isn’t ok and if I can make a small difference for one Fijian child’s life, it’s going to be worth having a cold bucket shower every morning! After all, this is all these children know…

I have decided to volunteer with Think Pacific because this charity build schools, improves sanitation, improves health and provides education and sports programmes for children living in hardship in Fiji. Over the 4 weeks, I will be teaching the Fijian Children English, mathematics and science, as well extra-curricular activities, such as art classes and sports. The extra curricular activities will not only help the students to perform better academically but help them both on a personal level and support them in their health and well-being.

I need £1100 in total for my expedition. The money will go towards resources such as books, stationery, tables, uniform for the children, access to clean water, schools meals for the children, access to clean sanitation, training teachers in Fiji, and infrastructure.

I would really appreciate donations of any size because every small contribution will make a huge impact on their lives. For example, just £9 could pay for a child’s primary school supplies.

I appreciate your time and consideration.

**None of this money goes towards my flights and accommodation, I will be paying for this myself. This fundraiser is solely for funding school supplies, sport equipment and improving sanitation for Fijian children and their families.**
