Deaf Action were established in 1835 and work with deaf people across Scotland and the South of England. Our work is geared towards empowering all deaf people to achieve their potential and fully participate in society, with equality of rights, access and opportunity.

Story

I'm running the London Marathon in October 2022 - my first ever marathon! Any donations to Deaf Action would give me the push I need to get round those 26.2 miles!

£2500 would fund 10 families for 12 months to do their sign language lessons with Deaf Action. They would have to fund this themselves in order to simply learn to communicate with their child.

My Story: Over the past few years, my hearing has deteriorated significantly and I'm now on the waiting list for an implant and a hearing dog. I've experienced the isolation, insecurity and fear that is felt when you can't understand a conversation, communicate with colleagues or participate in social situations. Even with the support of family, friends and my partner, the major challenge I face everyday is loneliness and the team at Deaf Action have been amazing! From enrolling in their BSL classes, giving advice and even organising equipment like vibrating alarm clocks and flashing fire alarms.

Why Deaf Action? Deaf action offers and inclusive community free-from barriers, where deaf and HOH (Hard of Hearing) can fulfil their full potential and thrive. I'm keen to support them as they extend their services from Scotland and the North East further South to continue positively impacting on the lives of young people.

They offer help in every aspect - from practical support in the home, delivering counselling sessions, education hearing people about inclusivity and awareness, and providing extensive BSL training.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for any donations made - I feel appreciate it!
