Edinburgh Marathon 2023 · 28 May 2023 ·
I got into this whole running malarkey a good few years ago when I signed up to do a 'tough mudder' 8k with my work at the time. Once the event was over I actually found myself "enjoying" the running aspect of the race.
Since then I've done several 10kms and the Edinburgh Half Marathon in 2018. This year I turn thirty and I wanted to do something significant so I thought signing up for the Edinburgh Marathon would be good motivation.
I’m running the Edinburgh Marathon for the Kidney Kids Scotland charity. When I was eighteen months old Doctors found an abscess on my left kidney which led to several complications and eventually the removal of my kidney. In total, I was in the hospital for about four months, first for my kidney removal operation in Aberdeen and then to the sick kids at Raigmore in Inverness. Obviously, it was a hard time for my parents, who had to balance their lives between hospital and work.
The great thing about Kidney Kids Scotland is that they are the only Scottish Charity supporting children with renal/urology illness and their families. Additionally, the main aim of the charity is to enable children to receive treatment as close to home as possible and minimize disruption to their family unit.
