The TM Society provides information and support to over 2000 people living with Transverse Myelitis, their families and carers in the UK, and those with other rare auto-immune neurological conditions, ADEM and NMO (Devic's disease). It's affiliated with the worldwide Transverse Myelitis Association.

Story

Once again I have taken on the challenge of L2P riding from London to Paris in 3 days covering approximately 330 miles, 110 miles per day.  The average speed necessary to achieve this in the time is around 18 mph which includes all the inclines and hills.  This has become for me one of the things in life that I most love and most hate at the same time!!!  However it does give me just for 3 days of my year a chance to raise money for an extremely deserving cause.  Please read the story below of Kitty; she is the daughter of 2 good friends of mine, Stewart and Lucy Castledine.  As a father of 3 children I cannot think of a more devastating situation to happen.  The way in which the Castledine family have dealt with this is simply amazing and if in a small way you can help me to help them to make Kitty’s life a little easier it would be greatly appreciated.  This will be my fourth L2P.  I purposely did not seek sponsorship last year so that all of you could have a year off but this year I am back with a vengeance!  It is my intention to post updates to everybody at the end of each day.

Please do what you can.

Thank you.

Grant

Kitty's Story

Two and a half years ago, seven year old Kitty Castledine walked to school and within an hour had collapsed and has never walked since.  She was left paralysed by an illness called Transverse Myelitis, where her immune system went haywire and for no apparent reason attacked her spinal cord.  In many cases the paralysis is permanent, but Kitty is working tirelessly to try to regain as much movement as she can.  She is still permanently wheelchair-bound, but through intensive physiotherapy using the latest state of the art but costly equipment,  she has managed to take a couple of very tentative, supported steps.  By the time she reaches adulthood we want to give Kitty every chance of attempting to walk again, and your support could help this brave little girl achieve her dream...
