Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit the Great War commemorative rugby game JustGiving page.

The players from Sutton & Epsom, Streatham & Croydon and Winchester University played on Saturday 18th April 2015, in aid of the Royal British Legion and to commemorate the ultimate contribution made by rugby players in the war effort.

In the presence of the Mayor of Sutton and other dignitaries, including members of the armed forces from Headley Court, the match was played with great respect to our fallen. The teams were dressed in vintage strip and the referee wore long shorts and a blazer (and didn't bring his cards in keeping with the period). Tries were 3 points and no penalty kicks for touch or goal were permitted. The final score of the Centennial game was 14-16 to Streatham and Croydon. Our thanks to the opposition for a competitive fair game.

We would also like to thank the Swifts XXXV, Ladies XV and Winchester university for the other entertaining games of the afternoon and the Under 8's for their tag rugby display.

Please give generously to this cause.
