We are a group of 17 staff and governors from Greenfield and Thistly Meadow Primary schools in Leicestershire who have taken on the challenge of walking the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in a day. The route takes in the three highest peaks in Yorkshire - Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough and we aim to cover the 24 miles in under 12 hours.

The walk will take in some of the best views in Yorkshire including the Ribblehead Viaduct but is not for the faint hearted; it is a tough challenge and we are putting in lots of hours of training, walking across Leicestershire and doing lots of supplementary fitness work. And we are enjoying the training!

Working in schools we pride ourselves on supporting all children to have the best start in life and go on to meet their potential; increasingly we are providing more and more SEND support and pastoral care for children with mental health conditions. We are also seeing the impact of mental health issues within the family that affect children and the community.

Children can experience a range of mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, attention-deficity/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), eating disorders, mood disorders and  schizophrenia. We know these conditions can have an impact on a child’s learning and development and their ability to create friendships and strong bonds that are important during their school life. 

We wanted to raise funds doing an event that would really challenge us. Charities are doing a tremendous amount of good work to support children and families struggling with mental health and we have decided to raise funds for Mind, the national charity for better mental health.
