Story
If you or a loved one were unlucky enough to go into Cardiac Arrest then you need help as quickly as possible. The sooner your heart gets a shock from a defibrillator unit the more chance you stand of surviving a cardiac arrest with the chances of survival reducing by 10-14% with every minute that passes
The nearest publicly available defibrillators to the Greylees estate are too far away if one was needed in an emergency. Ideally you need to be closer than 500 mtrs for the Ambulance service to send you to fetch one when you have dialed 999. We would need 2 units to be able to cover the whole estate and with each unit, including the cabinet costing just under £1100, we need to raise £2200.
SHOCK Sleaford was set up in May of 2015 by Sleaford & District Round Table to try and get as many areas as possible covered by a defibrillator, and in that time have provided 25 units and currently maintain 20 of them. The defibrillators installed are recommended by East Midlands Ambulance Service and will be added to their database, so when you dial 999 they know exact location of them. The 999 operator will then ask if someone can fetch the defibrillator and will help you should the unit be needed until an ambulance arrives.
The team at SHOCK Sleaford, who are all volunteers will install and maintain the units once installed and they continue to raise funds to maintain the units which costs about £90 every 2 years.
