Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

A little under a year ago we lost our incredible friend Martin Jacobs, or 'Griz' as he was affectionately known to all. Martin's larger than life personality and passion for adventure  taught us all how to live a little beyond our comfort zones! With that in mind, I decided a few months ago to embark on my own adventure in his honour. I, together with my friends Sarah and Gen and a wee Grizzly Bear Mascot, will be running the Solomon Skyline Mamores VK on Thursday, September 13th, 2018.

"An incredible leg burning and lung-busting ascent from sea level to Munro summit, the UK’s only Vertical Kilometer®!"

The Salomon Mamores VK™ follows the well established International Skyrunning Federation Vertical Kilometer® format, in which participants follow a marked course gaining 1000m of height in less than 5km. Participants are set off at timed intervals with the winner having the fastest overall time to the summit.

Martin, who not only served with RAF and Hampshire Police, was himself involved with Mountain Rescue and loved the Glencoe region. The Mamores are served by the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team - so a befitting choice of charity to honour our friend.

Make no mistake, this is a physically arduous challenge ! We have been training and preparing ourselves as best we can in the absence of Mountainous terrain in deepest darkest Hampshire! We look forward to sharing our adventure with you all and hope you will give generously to support a charity Martin would have approved of.
