Story

WE DID IT!!!! What a great day we had in Brighton. The sun was out and it was pretty hot but the actual run was easier than some of the training runs we did as we were well prepared for this. My time was 4 hours 50 minutes and Steve run it in 4 hours 45 minutes. Considering the heat, I was pleased with the time. Thank you all so much for your support and donations and you even managed to excede our fundraising target. You all we have made a big difference to the life of the children in need, so again a BIG THANK YOU!!!!!

Ok, we did run 20 miles on Sunday. We now know what it means to hit the wall. It hit us at around the 19th mile. There is a lot of pain and a feeling of total loss of energy. I just wanted to sit down and not move any more. I walked a few yards and then run again the last mile. At the end of the run I could barely walk the last yards home and had to stop and stretch frequently, I almost cried at this point :(

At this stage I can't even comprehend to run another 6 miles at the marathon. How do people do that???? Guess we'll find out soon

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We had a lovely Half Term skiing in France and used it as extra training for the marathon. We were on the slopes just after nine every day and skiied until 5pm with only half an hour to an hour for lunch. That wasn't out of choice but rather that my sons just didn't want to stop. We felt quite fit after the holiday and went for a long run next day after arriving back from France according to our training schedule which went quite well.
But a week later and all of a sudden we feel very tired and burned out. I went for a short 4 mile run this morning and struggled quite a bit. My time was slow and I had no energy. We have a long 20 mile run ahead of us on Sunday thought....I'll let you know how it went. It's only 5 weeks to the marathon now!!! The good news is that we have managed to loose a few kilos, yay. Not quite enough yet but it's coming off slowly, fingers crossed.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Happy New Year to you all. I thought I keep you updated about our training schedule so far. Steve and I managed to complete an 18 mile run just before Christmas (I restrain from mentioning my aches and pains afterwards...) Then the snow and ice hit us and I had to use the treadmill which I hate. Yesterday it was all back to normal again and we went on a 12mile run. That wasn't easy after all the festivities of the last week :(

Our next goal will be the biggest challenge: To loose a few kilos to be able to run faster in the marathon. So good bye chocolate, cake and biscuits...

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Steve and I have decided to run the Brighton Marathon to set us a personal challenge of a lifetime. We are not natural runners and have to work very hard every day to be able to finish the race in a decent time (our aim is 4 hours 30 minutes).

To reward our efforts and to keep motivated, we decided to support Chestnut Tree House. It is a charity that cares for children and young people with progressive life-time and life-threatening illnesses. To have a child that is terminally ill is a very traumatizing and deeply sad situation for parents and relatives.

So, if you would like to sponsor us for the Marathon and support our charity, please give generously. Every penny counts!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
