Story

Hi, I'm Gulliver and I'm 12 years old. Nearly 4 years ago my Uncle Owen died from an anaphylactic reaction to food he ate in a restaurant which wasn't labelled on the menu as containing dairy, and the server didn't know either. He was 9 years older than me and he was my best friend. I was with him the day he died and we had been to the Star Wars Exhibition at the O2 to celebrate his 18th birthday with my Uncle Dan, my Dad and Owen's girlfriend Martha.

Uncle Owen had long hair and was aiming towards  man-bun. Since he died I have been growing my hair so I can be like him (but I'm not keen on man-buns). In September last year I started at secondary school but I didn't like it because it was so big, loud and chaotic. My anxiety got really bad and I wasn't able to go to school all the time. I was diagnosed as having High Functioning Autism or Asperger Syndrome and haven't been able to go back to school since the second lockdown ended.

My mum and dad found a new school for me to go to with much smaller class sizes and teachers who will be able to support my anxiety. It's quite a smart place and the rules say I have to have my hair cut short (above my collar). I really don't want to cut it but if I can raise some money for Uncle Owen's fund with the Anaphylaxis Campaign, then at least something good will come out of it and maybe no more people will die like Uncle Owen.

I start my new school on 26th April and I’ll be getting my hair cut on 24th April, which is two days after the 4th anniversary of when Uncle Owen died.

I'm also going to donate my hair to the Little Princess Trust who make wigs for kids with cancer. One of my mum's friend’s children is going through chemo at the moment so I thought that would be a nice thing to do.
