MyVision Oxfordshire helps blind and partially sighted adults and children across Oxfordshire to cope with sight loss. We are committed to promoting independence and opportunity and offer information, advice and support to those affected, their families and carers.

Story

On 14th September 2019, we, Gurjeet Jutley and Colin Cure will be doing an abseil down the side of John Radcliffe, West Wing to raise money for a charity which is very close to our hearts.

Oxfordshire Association for the Blind (OAB) provides specialist support to those affected by sight loss and works very closely with us at the Oxford Eye Hospital. The charity has been running a sight advisory desk at the Hospital for over twenty years. This service ensures that support is available to patients at the time of diagnosis and beyond. There are around 600 visitors to the desk annually.

We have seen at first-hand the wide range of services and support offered by OAB and are very grateful to be able to refer on patients to them who need additional help. This charity is a lifeline for so many people who are struggling to adapt to sight loss and we are committed to doing all we can to help them continue their invaluable work.

The Team

Dr Gurjeet Jutley

Gurjeet is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Oxford Eye Hospital, with sub-speciality interests in glaucoma, trauma and complex cataract surgery and a keen supporter of OAB.

"I have always had passion for voluntary work. Helping those in need was the main reason I read medicine. Completing the Three Peaks Challenge was an overwhelming experience for me. The event was really successful and we managed to raise just over £1200. It was a privilege working alongside OAB and I am really excited to work with them again"

Colin Cure, Former Director, OAB

Colin did an amazing job as director and has strong links with the OAB.

"I'm delighted to be joining Gurjeet in this great fundraising challenge. I previously had the honour of leading OAB and I am keen to do what I can to continue to support them in the marvellous work that they are continuing to undertake. I did do some mountain leadership at University, but I haven't done an abseil for about 25 years.  I'll do what I did last time: close my eyes and hang on tight!"

Please support us on this expedition and help OAB to continue to help the blind and visually impaired people of Oxfordshire.
