Marathon Des Sables - 2010 · 2 April 2010

The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, we're doing whatever it takes to help more people with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer, whoever and wherever they are. To donate, volunteer, raise money or campaign with us, call 0300 1000 200 or visit macmillan.org.uk

Story

My mother, Jean Muir, sadly passed away in Feb 2009 after a typical show of her selflessness, immense courage and sharp sense of humour during her fight against cancer. It was her wish that I raise funds for the Macmillan Nurses who tended her so compassionately in her last months.

To that end I will be leading a 5 man team in the 25th Marathon Des Sables in April 2010 with an aim to personally raise £7,000 and for the team to raise £25,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support .

As it is the 25th Anniversary the MDS this year is a 250km/155 mile footrace across the Sahara with individuals being self sufficient and carrying provisions to survive the week long race where temperatures will rise to over 130. The sand, heat and physical stress on the body and mind can reduce individuals to sobbing wrecks. With the experience of 2 Marathon Des Sables (1998 & 2001) I know the emotional journey that is required to complete this event and I hope to emulate my mother's selflessness, courage and humour.

If you would like to sponsor my team ‘30 JRM’ in support of my mother’s wish will you please dig deep and donate now.  Cancer affects us all.
