Almost all the pork, bacon, ham, pepperoni and pork sausages sold in Britain come from pigs kept in factory farms. Yet according to researchers pigs are one of nature's most intelligent animals - they can even play simple computer games. 

Factory farming is the modern way of rearing animals. Large numbers are crammed into the smallest possible area to reduce costs. I find this scale of cruelty overwhelming and has devastating effects on the environment.

Going vegan, vegetarian or reducing meat and diary consumption is a hugely positive step to take in life and through its campaigning and educational work Viva! helps and advises those who want to alleviate animal suffering, improve their health, assist the world's poor and tread more lightly on the earth.
