We raise funds to support The Walton Centre in Liverpool

Story

Gethyn Owen is a member of the North Wales Premier Team sadly last year Gethyn's father Iolo 'Bonc' was diagonosed with MND.

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a rare condition caused by the breakdown of the nerve cells in the brain that control the muscles. Unfortunately there is currently no cure, and life expectancy will be affected depending on how symptoms progress. However, research is underway to understand the causes, and develop a cure. Iolo has been a freequent visitor to the Walton Centre.

The Walton Centre is unique to the NHS in that it is the only specialist Neurosciences Trust in the UK. Based in Liverpool, the catchment population is over 3.5 million and is drawn from Merseyside Cheshire, part of Lancashire and Greater Manchester, The Isle of Man and North Wales. However, with an international reputation in some areas of expertise, referrals are accepted on the basis of clinical need from any geographical area.

The Walton Centre provide a comprehensive range of services: neurology, neurosurgery, pain management, rehabilitation and specialist diagnostic service. The Walton Centre have set up a fund to help further the activities of the Walton Centre and allows improvements in areas such as neurological research (especially in MND), staff training and patient welfare. In supporting the activities of the Walton Centre NHS Trust.

The Premier team came together and decided they would like to do something to support Gethyn and his familly, so it was decided that we would do the 3 peaks challenge, Ben Nevis, Scaffel and Snowdon on September 23rd and 24th in order to raise money for the Walton Centre and the research that they do. We see this as a challenging prospect and will have to work as a team in order to complete this. We are very grateful for any support.
