Story
Haematology patients, and bone marrow transplant patients in particular, often have prolonged and frequent hospital stays. During this time, which can be weeks to months, they are generally confined to one room as they are receiving intensive chemotherapy or are very unwell. Anything that can improve their experience is so important, and this includes simple comforts such as a functioning microwave so any meals their relatives may have brought for them can be heated, TV facilities, Internet access, phone reception and cheerful decor in the rooms.
We are a group of haematology consultants, registrars, specialist nurses, and other healthcare professionals, with varying levels of fitness and running experience, aiming to run in the Abbey Dash to raise money for the Friends charity so that they can continue to improve the experiences of haematology patients, many of whom are obliged to spend so much time stuck in hospital.
Any sponsorship would be greatly appreciated.
