Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  My name is Sammy and I want to raise money for Hope Against Cancer, a Leicester based charity which funds valuable research in to beating cancer.

My wonderful Mother-in-law, Dawn, has recently been diagnosed with Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer and has just completed her second cycle of chemo.  She is at the beginning of her treatment and I cannot believe how amazing she is dealing with everything.  She is an incredibly strong and positive woman and with the attitude she has will no doubt beat this horrible disease.

Cancer is something that is already affecting Dawn and her family, as her husband, Tony, was diagnosed with high grade locally advanced terminal Prostate and Lymph node cancer in 2016.  Tony’s treatment included six cycles of chemotherapy, followed by five days of self injections.  For 12 months things seemed to be stable but then Tony’s PSA levels started to rise.  This was not the news any of us wanted.

Thankfully, Tony was offered a place on a clinical trial at the Hope Clinic based at Leicester Royal Infirmary in 2019.  Since being on the trial his PSA levels have stabilised and continue to be stable.  Tony regularly attends the hope clinic and believes he owes them his life.

It’s heartbreaking for anyone to have cancer, particularly a parent, but to think that they are both fighting their own battles with cancer as well as supporting each other is unbelievable.

Since I decided to get my Hair Off for Hope, Dawn has decided that she is going to do it as well - there is no stopping her when she’s decided to do something.
