Story
A year ago I took a trip to Hall Green to drop some dog toys off. My heart was breaking having recently said the final goodbye to my beloved wire fox terrier, Johnnie Boy. I wanted other dogs to benefit from his toys and there was no question in my mind that those would be greyhounds.
I have always loved greyhounds for their sensitive, affectionate & reserved nature.
A quick visit to drop off toys resulted in me undertaking training to become a volunteer, and subsequently volunteering on a weekly basis to assist in walking, and lots of love and cuddles!
When my schedule allows, I bring a greyhound home with me on a visit, to help them get used to the car and being in a home environment - as many of them have never experienced life outside of the kennels.
I was thrilled that "Socks" found his forever home shortly after he came home with me. Being able to show pictures of the dogs in a home really does help. A picture is worth a thousand words and I was so happy to have played a part in his homing.
Every greyhound deserves to be loved, to have their own loving home and this is where I ask you to please help me ...help them.
In a bid to help raise awareness and much needed funds for Hall Green Greyhound Trust, I am embarking on a 100km run on the 8th & 9th July. I will be running Race to the Stones 100 kilometres Ultramarathon for the greyhounds (not in speedy greyhound fashion, alas)
- from Lewknor to Avebury - covering 50km a day ..that's more than a marathon ... twice! 😱
Please support if you can by donating and helping me raise some much needed funds that will help Hall Green give the care and support these greyhounds need whilst they find them a suitable forever home.
Thank you Ruth Matthews
