My father was the most generous and giving person that I know. During his life he helped many charities and individuals in Cambridge, and wherever help was needed, without asking for anything in return including setting up the first mosque in Chesterton Road 40 years ago.

Even after his first stroke which left him partially immobile, he attended Friday prayers every week at the Mawson Road mosque. For him, the mosque was an important component of life where people could meet, worship, socialise and educate. He would have loved the new eco friendly Islamic Centre in Mill Road, had he lived long enough to see it.

This fund is set up to honour his name and his dedication to his family and friends in Cambridge so that we can help finish the construction of the Centre and use it for the benefit of all.

The Cambridge Mosque Trust is the first purpose-built mosque in Cambridge, UK and is dedicated to fostering greater understanding between communities and have a strong educational component, providing an infrastructure and support for learning and research. As a major international city, Cambridge deserves a proper facility which will enhance its prestige and provide an architectural focus attracting new visitors.

The Cambridge Mosque Trust will not follow or expect adherence to any particular school of Islam and will welcome worshippers from every part of the Muslim family, of both genders.

Reflecting Islam’s contribution to contemporary debates over sustainability, the mosque will incorporate significant design features which will minimise carbon emission and emphasise the role of faith in promoting responsible management of the earth’s resources.
