Story

Last year I had the most amazing year turning 49. I gave myself permission to get on and complete a load of exciting new challenges and adventures. The one thing I didn't address when looking after my mental health was alcohol. This is my year zero - I'm going to give it up for a year.

I'm not giving up partying, or enjoying life. I'm not giving up (I hope) my permission to be the life and soul or the loudest person in the room. I'm just giving up booze.

I need to put my back against the wall on this one - so I'm doing it for charity, for the brilliant Centre for Mental Health. Their research is second to none. And they continue to push boundaries for the user voice, something that I always hope to continue to do myself, wherever I find myself over the next year.

I'm doing this to squeeze the drops of enjoyment from life - hope it resonates that the challenge of stopping drinking booze can do that too.

If you want to support this ridiculous mission then please do hit give - if you feel like you'll have a couple of nights or a week off booze yourself to see how it feels I'd be delighted too. Every penny counts. Every drop of enjoyment counts too.

Please do share this - please do drink mindfully - and please do give.

About the charity

Poverty, injustice and discrimination put some people at a much higher risk of poor mental health – but less likely to receive the right support. Our work is driving forward sustainable policy change, to pursue equality, social justice and good mental health for all.
