Story
I will be going to India as part of a UK government funded program to work alongside Raleigh International, a youth and sustainable development charity devoted to growing globally aware citizens with the purpose to provide sustainable solution based help to communities living in extreme poverty. The communities I will be working with have directly asked for specific help from Raleigh and are in need of support so I am fundraising on their behalf!
Where your money goes:
£15 could buy six pieces of timber that could be used for the construction of a kindergarten in Borneo, giving children their first access to education.
£150 could buy an 800 gallon water tank for a village of 250 people in Nicaragua that would provide a clean way to store water
£260 allows Raleigh to build one eco-sanitation unit for a rural community in India, reducing the risk of disease and death due to water contamination.
£3,940 could mean that Raleigh could build a secondary school in rural Costa Rica, giving young people a chanceto pursue advanced education and break the out of the poverty cycle.
I will be involved in tackling poor sanitation and health issues as well as helping local communities and farmers increase their crumbling livelihoods.
Examples of things we may do on a typical day, building toilets (69% of the Indian population has no access to a toilet!) organising health camps, having discussions and meetings with locals to get the core of the issues at hand so we can appropriately move forward with them.
Aside from my actualy volunteering, I am organising a range of events here in the UK before my departure to raise vital funds to support Raleigh all I can. Please watch this space for an update on things I will be doing and I'll be sure to nudge you all from time to time!
Please give generously and selflessly, this is an important and well established charity that honours its supporter's donations with excellent sustainable solutions for those living in extreme poverty.
Things I am planning to do:
1.) A raffle draw with a top prize being a tour of Big Ben OR the Houses of Parliament.
2.) A cake sale.
3.) I will spend one full day shoeless and document this for your viewing pleasure once I reach £500.
4.) Bucket collections in supermarkets.
6.) Will spend 24hours in silence once we hit £700.
7.) I promise to do an amazing dance video for your pleasure when we hit £800.
My target is £800 by August 30th, anything over this is fabulous.
Thank you! :)
