Story
In February 2018 I lost my amazingly brave husband to this awful cancer at the age of only 29. Despite having this disease for so long Scott was a very fit and active person, so in memory of him I have decided to take part in a 9-mile round hike up Mount Snowdon to help raise funds for those affected by ocular melanoma. Anyone who knows me will know getting drunk at BBQ’s is as outdoorsy as I get so if you sponsor me for anything it should be so I actually have to do it!
Please see below for how your donation could help someone affected by ocular melanoma, a rare type of eye cancer.
Approximately 600 people every year, in the UK are diagnosed with ocular melanoma and sadly for half of these patients the cancer will go onto spread to other organs. Some treatments are giving patients more time but there is currently no cure for this condition and surveillance is key.
Any funds raised from both the actual and virtual Snowdon challenges will be directly funding regular MRI scans for patients unable to access them on the NHS. This scheme will involve OcuMel UK working with a team of doctors to provide MRI scans privately at a cost of £2435 per patient to receive biannual scans for a duration of 3 years. Any sponsorship you give will ultimately allow for more patients to be enrolled in this much needed MRI scheme and give patients hope for their future.
