China Trek : The Great Wall Challenge · 8 October 2016 to 16 October 2016 ·

Hospiscare provides free and specialised nursing to the terminally ill in Exeter, Mid and East Devon. It looks after more than 700 patients at any one time, supporting patients in their own homes and in its hospice. It relies on the generosity of the community to provide this vital service.

Story

Over the past few years I’ve taken part in several fundraising adventures; a mile open water swim, sky diving and charity runs, however next year, which is also my 30th birthday year, I am taking on the adventure of trekking the Great Wall of China.

To make this even more special I will be trekking alongside my wonderful and inspirational Mum. My Mum (Helen) is Head of Retail for Hospiscare, and would have been working for this amazing charity for 15 years in October 2016. I couldn’t ask for a more motivational role model than my Mum.

So what better way to celebrate a momentous year for the both of us by taking part in a great adventure with my best friend and Mum; whilst raising money for a charity who make a massive difference to people’s lives when individuals and their families are faced with a terminal diagnosis.

Hospiscare deliver their services for free with the support of the local community. The work of the staff and volunteers at Hospiscare is incredible and I have been privileged to have met some of them and see firsthand their passion for the charity. I want to ensure they can continue to deliver their outstanding care by helping raise £3000.

To prepare for the Trek I will to continue with my avid gym going at Urban King’s Gym, where the coaches and my fellow gym buddies will put me through my paces and keep me inspired to push myself to the limit. I’m also planning some treks on the Devon Moors and the Fells in the Lake District.

I will be holding several fundraising events over the next nine months, including a Chinese New Year Fundraising Night (details to follow shortly), quiz night and other fun events.

Please spread the word and let your friends and families know about my quest, if 3000 people donated just £1 each I would reach my target!

Thank you so much for your support, the money raised will really make a difference to the patients and their families.
