Story
How I got here:
A few years ago now, I was in the worst place I could imagine. The climb back to myself took everything I had and if I'm really honest I only just feel like I'm truly regaining my strength, enthusiasm and confidence for life. It has taken me a long time to feel brave enough to talk openly about my experience with depression but now I am motivated to not only talk about it but to take action and give back.
So, as someone who has experienced depression this is a project that means a great deal to me. Mental Heath issues are finally being talked about in the mainstream but we still have a long way to go to really ease the stigma and raise the support levels for those who need it most. Support that Mind fights so hard to keep going.
For me, Mind Charity was the first place I realised I was not alone and that there was no shame in asking for help...without it's support I'm not sure I would have taken the steps I needed to in order to get better. This support and the support and love from family, friends and partners is, of course, beyond priceless and I couldn't do any of this without you.
This year I want to give back, express thanks and reach out to all those who are suffering with mental health issues. In order to do this I'm going to take on a whole year of projects: I plan to complete as many personal and physical challenges as I can; I will run events in order to raise awareness and I will obviously implore you to share my journey and support this wonderful cause in anyway that you can.
This is, of course, for you out there: friends and loved ones and for everyone who is battling the darkness.
So far I have planned a few major challenges and events and will be adding more along the way. If anyone has any ideas of things they'd like me to do, I'd love to hear it - Tweet me - @HannahLeMade
