Sherwood Pines 10k Run · 17 July 2011

We stand on the side of animals and protect them from being harmed or killed in the name of ‘sport’. We manage sanctuaries to protect wildlife, carry out investigations to expose law-breaking and cruelty to animals, and campaign for stronger animal protection laws and penalties.

Story

We cant believe we've actually signed ourselves up to do a 10 kilometer run. What were we thinking!? What has brought us both to doing such a thing you may ask? Well if you ask anyone that knows us they will tell you how extremely passionate we both are about things, and The League Against Cruel Sports is definitely a charity we are both passionate about!

The League Against Cruel Sports aims to bring an end to so called "sports" where the intended victims are animals. They campaign against things such as Fox Hunting, Bullfighting, Dog Fighting, Shooting, Snaring and Trophy Hunting. Barbaric acts that you would have thought had died out in the middle ages.

We still have faith in Britain though. That we are an animal loving nation. In 1835 we were the first nation in the world to make fighting and baiting illegal. With help from people like you we can continue to portray ourselves in a positive and merciful light rather than a cruel and premodern one.

We are not doing this to beg for money or to criticise peoples opinions, whatever they are, on these matters. Not everything we do in life is perfect but we both do believe we are fighting for a good cause. We aim to simply create awareness. That behind the scenes horrific animal cruelty is going on everywhere, and as we speak. Somewhere in Britain foxes are being ripped apart by packs of dogs. Dogs are being fought to the death. Animal snares are garrotting and suffocating the life out of badgers, cats, dogs and foxes. People are right now betting and gambling on whether or not a defenceless animal will survive being horrifically attacked. We're here for mutual empathy. That people will sponsor us because they too feel as passionate about this cause. We are here to represent all those people who wish they could raise money for this charity that perhaps can't due to having small children and full time jobs. We want people to sponsor us to help save the world. At least thats how we feel. That if we help save the life of one defenceless animal being killed in the name of sport than we have infact saved the world, at least for them.

It's with this reason that we will be running 10 kilometers, on Sunday July 17th at Sherwood Forest, to show our support and our passion! Every penny you donate through Just Giving goes straight to the charity in helping to fight cruelty to animals. http://www.league.org.uk/

We as humans are the superior race on the planet. We shouldn't exploit this fact.
