Great North Run 2017 · 10 September 2017 ·

Sistema Scotland’s Big Noise orchestra programmes support young people to improve their wellbeing, learning and confidence. We work with children and families in six communities: Raploch & Fallin in Stirling, Govanhill in Glasgow, Torry in Aberdeen, Douglas in Dundee and Wester Hailes in Edinburgh.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

In January, I decided that this year I would challenge myself to run the Great North Run; something I've always wanted to do but never thought I could achieve. Six months on I'm questioning my sanity but I'm a stubborn bugger who likes to keep promises. If I can raise some money along the way, that's a bonus...

There are so many brilliant and worthy charities out there. I chose Sistema Scotland because music has the ability to bring people from all walks of life together, regardless of background, status, gender or religion. Sistema Scotland's work aims to create permanent social change for children in some of the most deprived communities in Scotland. Their participation in the Big Noise orchestra programme can help to develop confidence and foster resilience, teamwork, discipline, pride and aspiration; enabling children and young people to realise and reach their potential. This philosophy has a knock on effect for their families and the wider community.
