Kimbilio is a project of the British nonprofit, Congo Children Trust. 'Kimbilio' means ‘refuge, a place to run to for safety’ in Swahili. We provide a refuge for street children in Lubumbashi at the day centre we run in the Anglican cathedral, along side the two long-term residential homes and two transit centers we own and operate. In addition to providing street children with shelter, food, medical care, education and love, Kimbilio works to reintegrate children with their families whenever possible.
During the rainy season in DRCongo illnesses such as Typhoid and Malaria really take their toll, especially for vulnerable and marginalised groups such as street children.
Jaque came to Maison Kimbilio after his Mother died and his extended family blamed him. He was branded a witch, beaten and thrown out to fend for himself on the dangerous streets of Lubumbashi. He was told about Kimbilio by some children he had met on the street but after the long trek here he was already very sick with Malaria.
Thank to the tireless work of the Kimbilio carers he was taken to hospital and nursed back to health. He is now fighting fit and permanently living at the long term boys home run by Kimbilio but we still need your help. Medicine can be very expensive especially when it is needed urgently and children often come to us already suffering. Your donations will go towards buying mosquito nets for all four houses, covering medicine costs, transport to hospitals and keeping our dedicated Kimbilio carers doing their amazing work.
