Hannah's page

Hello, Hannah here.
Cancer effects every single one of us & hit us with a vengeance in 2015 when Mum was diagnosed with the rare Primary Peritoneal Cancer. It’s been an incredibly hard 4 years but we’ve had some amazing times all the same, especially during Mum’s almost 2 year remission - it included her 70th birthday & a trip to Finnish Lapland.
When the cancer came back in 2017 Mum was told it was palliative care only and sadly the treatment never really worked. After a few treatment options over 18 months, Mum died peacefully in July of this year. It was brutal yet amazing all at the same time. Mum’s partner, Andrew, my brothers, Matt & Tim and I feel very blessed to have spent those last very peaceful days with Mum at the amazing Hospice in the Weald.
I always like a charity challenge & have signed up to a few this year, one which I couldn’t make due to Mum dying the day before, but I still ran my 10K as promised, just 250 odd miles away!
My Race for a Life/Cancer Research challenges booked to date are:
10th July: Scarborough Race for Life 10K - run in Tunbridge Wells - DONE 😊
14th September: York Pretty Muddy 5k
4th October: York 10K Shine Walk (with Erik)
Other:
22nd September: Hospice in the Weald 10K. I am doing this with the support of 5 of my oldest friends who I wouldn’t necessarily call runners - this is supposed to be our 40th Birthday Girls Weekend Away but we’re doing this instead - amazing friends 💓My brothers are also doing it & as such I have TWO hospice just giving pages set up!!! (Alice Dewar-Mills & Tim Sloan)
Whilst I’m doing this for Mum, I‘m also doing it for everyone effected by cancer, not least my Dad who thanks to a savvy doctor and good treatment recovered from Prostate Cancer in 2018; my Aunt who sadly lost her life at age 50 to an aggressive, non-smoking related lung cancer; and I can’t even begin to tell you about all my friends & extended family who have been affected by this bastard disease.
Treatment & diagnosis has improved massively but there is still so much scope for improvement, which makes donating money to Cancer Research UK a no brainer.
I know I do these challenges a lot & so ask a lot. Please don’t feel any obligation to donate, but equally if you can afford £1 please do, every penny/pound counts.
Thank you, H x
