Adidas Silverstone Half Marathon 2010 · 14 March 2010 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Gosh, er, what to write...

I've clearly gone bonkers but I've decided to run the Silverstone Half Marathon for the Stroke Association.

Strokes
are alarmingly prevalent in my family which makes this a cause close to my heart. The potential impact of a stroke is devastating and anything that can go towards prevention, or helping those for whom it's already too late get on with life as much as possible is huge.

This is how the money could help:

£20 keeps their helpline open for an hour
£50 would go towards publishing information booklets
£100 provides a day long-talk by an Education, Training Information or Support Organiser
£250 could help provide audio versions of leaflets for people with communication difficulties
£500 could help provide specialist speech and language training to enable staff to support and empower people
with communication difficulties on their way to recovery
£1,000 could help fund a pioneering research project designed to develop the understanding and treatment of aphasia, and improve the quality of people's lives
£9,000 covers the total expenses for 900 case studies over 3 years
£15,000 would fund the equipment for an entire research project

Any help you might be able to give would be hugely appreciated.
