Reading Half Marathon 2010 · 21 March 2010 ·
Thank you for taking the time to visit Harriet and Giles' JustGiving page. This year we will be running (what, all the way you say?) the Reading Half Marathon and aiming to raise funds for Help For Heroes. You may have heard of this charity but if not there is a link on the left hand side of this page which will send you to their website. Quite simply, they raise funds for service men and women injured in recent conflicts to assist with their rehabilitation either back into military or civilian life. So far the charity has raised over £39 million to do this and is aiming to raise another £20 million.
Like many people, we have been very moved by the courage and determination exhibited by our service men and women who have been seriously injured and who are trying to rebuild their lives so we resolved to actually get off our bottoms and do something. This is either brave or foolhardy on the basis that we are:
a) too old
b) too unfit
c) too overweight
d) all of the above
Giles has bought a gadget which will apparently plot our course round the race and tell us how far we have run, how many calories we have burned and allsorts of other helpful information although as long as we complete the 13 miles that's all that matters.
Harriet hasn't raised money for anything since she did the Brownie sponsored walk in 1977 and raised £12. This time around, we are hoping to raise a bit more, so anything you can give will be very gratefully received. Once you donate, JustGiving sends your money directly to Help for Heroes and makes sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Many thanks in advance for your contributions and wish us luck, Go Team Warner!
