Headway Devon support people with brain injuries to come to terms with what has happened and overcome their disabilities so that they can go on to get the most out of their new lives. We also provide support and advice to families and carers.

Story

This Hats for Headway Day, on Friday May 24th, we will be wearing our cycle helmets all day. Wearing them in the office, doing outreach work as a community support worker, attending meetings, going to the shops, and even out for a Friday night drink!

Yes, we will look stupid. Yes, we will raise eyebrows.

Here's why...

"Cycling to and from work, I am not one of those people who looks 'cool' on my bike." says Victoria "I always wear a high visibility waistcoat and a cycle helmet."

The thing is, working for a brain injury charity, looking good is bottom of the list of concerns for our morning commutes. Every day we work with people who are struggling with the after-effects of acquired brain injuries. As our body's central hub, these effects can be very far reaching; affecting people's mobility, language, memory, emotions, cognition, energy levels, confidence, independence, relationships, work, well, literally every aspect of their lives.

Living with a brain injury is tough. And, in some ways, these are the lucky ones. The ones that did survive.

Personally, we don't understand why anyone wouldn't wear a bicycle helmet. However, I do see so many people making this choice and risking their heads each and every day.

We want to raise awareness of how important it is to protect our heads. And we want to raise awareness of the wonderful work that Headway Devon does.

Please sponsor us this Hats for Headway Day! The money you donate will help people recover from acquired brain injury, supporting them in their rehabilitation.
