About us

In a moment of madness and philanthropy earlier this year, I (Hayley, 27) forcefully persuaded my boyfriend (James, 27) and dad (Graham, 62!!) to take on swimming's version of the marathon and raise money for a great cause. With none of us being strangers to a wetsuit and having competed in many open water swimming events before - from Lake Windermere to the Thames – I thought it would be fun, but this will be our first endurance race and toughest challenge yet. We are terrified!

Our training has been varied. Graham has been swimming at the Brentwood Centre, Essex where retired life means he swims most mornings, and he is also part of a team swimming from island to island in Croatia this summer. Meanwhile James and I will be clocking up the miles at our beloved local London Fields Lido in Hackney, dodging the swans and geese in the Serpentine, venturing into new waters at the Stoke Newington Reservoir and getting in some sea swims in Whitstable at weekends. The plus side to this is we get to eat loads of carbs!

Any donations or support you can offer would encourage us immensely in our training and on the big day, Saturday 15th September, for our epic, 10k/6mile wild swim, taking approximately 3-4 hours (we hope!). Think of us  swimming alongside the salmon, trout, seals (eels!) and apparently some dolphins and porpoises in the River Dart and pray that our necks don’t chafe too much in our extremely unflattering wetsuits.  Your kind donations will be going to FRANK Water, a wonderful little charity helping some of the world’s poorest communities gain access to safe water in countries very close to our hearts. Thanks so much for your support!

About the Dart 10K

The Dart 10k was the first, and is arguably the finest, 10k swim on the open water calendar and 2018 is its ninth year. It has grown from 200 swimmers to 1600. The course of the Dart 10K is a unique journey down the River Dart in Devon, punctuated by landmarks such as the Cormorant Tree, the white rock, Sharpham boat house and Bow Creek. It is known as swimming’s version of the Marathon!
