Story
Why am I cycling 100 miles in August?
I am raising funds for the Samaritans in memory of my Dad. Samaritans is an amazing charity and one which is close to my heart. They offer support to anyone in distress 24 hours a day, their vision is that fewer people die by suicide, and I view their work as both essential and life saving.
Yeah... 100 miles, why am I cycling this far?
1. I’ve always loved to cycle, and I’ve cycled all over the world (when I say that I mean gentle rides, generally of no more than about 25 miles, which have happened to occur in Britain, France, Germany & Austria). My “international experience” has perhaps (*almost definitely) falsely led me to believe that 100miles is an achievable goal – But I am determined to ride the storm and achieve the goal of a centenary ride, this summer, to raise funds for a charity that is close to my heart!
2. At the top of a long ascent after a 100km night ride (the only time I have every cycled more than about 30 miles), feeling more tired than I ever knew was possible, I cycled the wrong way down a one-way system and over the finish line. I was exhausted and vowed I would never cycle that far again! The following day, sitting in the sun, the realities of long distance riding had become a distant memory - what fun it had been! Next year I would undertake a new challenge to raise funds for Samaritans - How much further could 100 miles be??
So here I am starting my journey to 100 miles…
Thank you so much for your support, any donations are greatly appreciated! :)
