Story
In March 2012, I collapsed on the pitch during an FA Cup match live on TV. My heart had stopped beating – I had suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, the UK's biggest killer.
Fortunately, I was treated on the pitch with CPR and an automated external defibrillator (AED) before being rushed to hospital. My heart was restarted after it stopped beating for 78 minutes. But 100,000 others in the UK are not as lucky as me. They die from sudden cardiac arrest.
I’ve joined the Arrhythmia Alliance, Bolton Wanderers Community Trust and the North West Ambulance Service to launch the Hearts & Goals campaign. Our goals are to:
- place 500 public-access AEDs across the UK
- train 200 First-aiders in CPR and defibrillator training
- check 500,000 pulses for signs of heart rhythm disorders
If you would like your donation to go towards a public-access AED in a particular community, please specify which town or city.
Help save thousands of lives. Support us to tackle the UK’s biggest killer.
Thanks for supporting Hearts & Goals.
