Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am committing to eating No chocolate, sweets, cake, or ANY bread, for two months. (From April 6th to June 6th 2021)

Anyone who knows me, knows what a sweet tooth I have and how difficult I find it to resist these foods, so this is HUGELY challenging for me. But I'm determined to do it, as I want to raise as much money as possible for the PTEN Foundation. This foundation supports people suffering from, and funds research into, PTEN disorders.

The PTEN hamartoma tumor syndrome (PHTS) is a spectrum of disorders caused by mutations of the PTEN tumor suppressor gene in egg or sperm cells (germline). These disorders are characterized by multiple hamartomas that can affect various areas of the body. I have a lovely friend whose teenage daughter suffers from one of these disorders - Cowden Syndrome. The family live in constant fear of her developing tumours, which can be benign or malignant, and her lifelong risk of developing certain kinds of cancer is very high. She is in and out of hospital for tests and biopsies. Her strength is truly awe inspiring.

Cowden Syndrome, and many other similar disorders, are very rare, and consequently underfunded, and I want to do my best to help those needing support. Please, give all you can, for Charlotte, and all those like her. ❤️
