Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

We did it! what  a fantastic experience and achievement - it was a really tough challenge!

Day 1 we walked 31 miles starting in Newcastle and walked along the Tyne up into the hills - walking from 8am - 6.45 pm

Day 2 we walked from 8am again through to 6.45pm and this was by far the toughest day but also the most spectacular in terms of scenery and views - we walked 25 miles

Day 3 we finshed off with 28 miles and were met with champagne in Bowness - on-Solway - it was very emotional - people had turned out to meet us who had read what we were doing.

We estimate we walked the 84 miles in 29 hours over the 3 days.

We walked with, and met some really fantastic people along the way - I would definitely do it again! Our training along the South Downs Way was invaluable but was nothing like the real thing in terms of the rugged terrain and the steepness of the hills - we all ended up with blisters due to the amount of miles we walked, the terrain and our boots got wet and did not dry after the 1st day.

Thank you so much to everyone who sponsored me!!!!

(Kathryn - do get in touch - my email is heatherrichards9@aol.com - I have lots of tips to give you -  the 1st being take lots of Compeed plasters!!!)

A group of about 12 of us are walking the route of Hadrian's Wall (84 miles) in just 3 days over the  May Bank Holiday weekend 29th - 31st May 2010. This is the path that follows the old Roman Wall built by Emperor Hadrian  across England.

This is an extremely tough challenge particularly as the middle section consists of  very rugged terrain which puts pressure on walking lots more miles on days 1 & 3 - however lots of practice, good walking boots and sheer determination will get us through! Our walk has been christened "Hadrian's Hobble!"

The most I have walked in 1 day whilst training is 26 miles but having to do that and more for 3 days in a row is going to be very tough!

Update:Over the early May Bank Holiday weekend I walked a total of 60 miles over  3 days - I am now resting ready for the "main event" at the end of May!

This will be challenging both mentally and physically but our motto is "train hard, walk easy"!

I have decided to raise money for the Cornelia de Lange Syndrome, which is the charity of the year for the Company I work for. This is a small, little known charity and any money raised can make a huge difference. The syndrome is a rare genetic disorder which can cause a large number of disabilities and developmental problems both physically and mentally. A work colleague of mine has a son with this syndrome and I know that any money raised will be very greatly appreciated.

I therefore ask you to dig deep and donate now and don't forget to think of me over the Bank holiday weekend! (luckily I have the following week off work to recover!)

Many many thanks - all donations, however small are greatly appreciated!
