Story
In November last year our friend and cycling club member Richard Collin’s teenage son Dan tragically lost his fight against cancer. A number of Richard's friends who have ridden with Richard over the years are undertaking a cycling challenge to raise funds and awareness for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Trust, which provided exceptional clinical support for Dan Collin and a great deal of support for Richard.
The Weston Park Teenage Cancer Unit do a fantasic job. Generally the NHS supports the very young and older patients well - teenagers aren't so well supported (because they are generally fit and well). The Teenage Cancer Trust provide fantastic specialist support for the unlucky few teenagers and their families that do unfortunately get ill. It is in recognition of that support that we want to raise funds and awareness.
25 of us (plus a great support crew) will be riding from Rother Valley in Haslemere (where Richard lives) to Rother Valley in Sheffield (where Dan lived and worked) and back over the weekend of 12/13th July (a total of 720km with over 8000m of ascent). This is a bit far for a solo ride so the days have been split into 4 stages each.
I will be riding a minimum of 2 stages / half of the distance each day - approximately 180km a day and 360km for the weekend but with the ambition to do 3 stages or 540km in total. We'll set off at 05:30 on Saturday morning and hope to get to Sheffield in time for dinner at 20:00 ... then get up and do it all again the next day!
It would mean a lot to me if you'd sponsor me for this challenge, and support our efforts to raise awareness and funds for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Trust. No amount is too small, so even if you only have a couple of quid to spare, I'd be grateful.
Many thanks - Heinz
