Having never run before in my life, I started doing the Newport Parkrun Couch to 5K programme two years ago. This changed my life and I have become healthier and fitter as a result. I regularly run 5k at a time and have done four 10k races in Cardiff and Newport. For some reason, my daughter thought that it would be good for me to progress to a half marathon (really?!) and went ahead and registered me for the Cardiff Half Marathon (cheers Ell!). I have no idea if I can do this and to be honest, just the thought of running that distance frightens me beyond belief!

To make it worthwhile therefore and so that I have something to encourage me, I have decided that I would like to raise money for the Jacob Abraham Foundation. One of Ell's best friends, Matt (age 20), decided last year that this world was no longer for him. Nine months later his younger brother Tom (age 15) made the same decision. It is almost unbearable to write about alone experience but this is what their beautiful family and friends have had to deal with. The Jacob Abraham Foundation has been there to support the family and offers support to people who are struggling in the here and now. It is a local South Wales charity without the costs associated with national charities and therefore every penny will fund their activities.  

If you can spare anything at all to help the Foundation's work then I will be eternally grateful. I know that when the running gets tough on 7 October, I will be thinking of Matt and Tom and I will do whatever it takes to get to that finish line in their honour.
