Saving species from extinction is a complicated puzzle. There's no quick fix. Now more than ever, wildlife veterinary experts are crucial to help control disease & understand how diseases are transmitted. WVI train and support frontline staff in veterinary medicine so wildlife survives & thrives.

Story

My fellow Veterinary Nurse colleague Matthew Rendle goes out to India every year to help birds injured in the Kite Festival.

During the annual Kite Festival there have been years when up to 3,500 birds have been brought in injured.  Kites are flown at great heights. Kite flyers routinely use kite strings of up to 5km.The kite strings are invisible to birds and they fly into them damaging their wings and then they fall to the ground damaging other parts of their bodies.

Matthew and his team work all day everyday during the festival trying to save the birds, often late into the night.
