Thank you so much for visiting my page!! My name is Helen, as you can see from my picture, I  was a nurse... yes, past tense 😢.

 I was diagnosed with Lupus about 3 years ago. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that is indescriminate in its nature. Basically MY immune system is attacking ME! 

I’m in constant joint pain, have skin problems, and recently I was rushed into Guys & St Thomas’s with heart failure and shortness of breath. After a two weeks as an inpatient, the wonderful Lupus experts told me that the Lupus had ‘attacked’ my lungs and diaphragm. I have Shrinking Lung Disease and a hemi diaphragm- basically I only have 50%. breathing  capicity. I’m only 48 years old, and I can barely walk without getting breathless, I have terrible chest pain as well as joint pain. I’ve recently been retired from my beloved nursing career, as I’m too ill to carry out my role. From being a dynamic, kind caring nurse to being a patient is very difficult for me. My amazing husband, Pete cares for me as well as looking after our home and running his business. My two sons Chris and Samuel Wakley are supportive and loving, as are my family and friends. Don’t think I’d get through this without you all xx

When my sisters  Jane Bishop and Lesley Harris and my niece Olivia Harris told me they were taking part in Great South Run 2018 for me, for Lupus Uk- it’s was emotional to say the least! I’m so very very proud of them!!! Love them dearly. So the Lupus Uk t shirts have arrived, purple leggings arrived and purple wings!!! You won’t miss them!! The purple butterfly is Lupus Uk symbol, as people with Lupus often have a butterfly rash across face. 

This disease is devastating to many sufferers- it certainly is to me. It’s caused me so much loss.. my health, my breath, my independence, my self esteem and confidence, my NHS career , my ability to carry out the simplest of tasks without pain, breathlessness and fatigue.
