We educate about persistent heartburn to raise awareness of risks & save lives.

Story

On Sunday 5th March I will be running the Cambridge Half Marathon for Heartburn Cancer UK (HCUK).  HCUK is a national charity dedicated to raising awareness of and supporting research into oesophageal cancer. The incidence of oesophageal cancer is rapidly increasing and is of great concern in the UK. It is now the fifth greatest cancer killer.  Early detection has a significant improvement in survival rates in those that have or may develop oesophageal cancer.

In January 2016 my Dad was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer. After a year of treatment including chemotherapy and surgery to remove his oesophagus, he will be starting a course of radiotherapy soon.

I want to raise money to support a charity that encourages the early detection of this disease so that other people can be treated at an earlier stage in its development or indeed before cancer has developed. More information about HCUK can be found at http://www.heartburncanceruk.org/about.html

At Heartburn Cancer UK we work to raise awareness of the link between persistent heartburn, oesophageal cancer and a related condition called Barrett's Oesophagus. We encourage sufferers of persistent heartburn to seek medical advice early - because doing so may save their life.
